 Looking at it from a wave perspective, S&P is on the start of wave 3 from the Oct bottom... 
 
wave 1 - 3491 to 4100
wave 2 - 4100 to 3764
wave 3 -  3764 to around 4500 with a retrace in between. Most likely around the 4300 area.
 
Note also that the 50MA crossed the 200MA to the upside...  and on heavy volume...
