Do you think the '14 crash really had much of an impact on the willingness of the US companies to invest in cap ex, other than for the year-or-so period when oil prices were in the doldrums?
 
As shown by the linked graph of US oil production,
 
 
despite the big scare of the late '14 crash, the growth rate of production actually increased from '17 thru '19, only coming down after that due to the pandemic.
 
It's pretty clear (to me at least) that the current austerity regarding cap ex spending by the US E&Ps has more to do with the oil price crash from the pandemic than the crash that happened in late '14.
