Most well positioned public companies raise cash by stock offering, issuing preferred stock, or by credit line from a bank. It is my fairly ill informed opinion, that the very fact that a company is borrowing from a BCD indicates a certain measure of weakness and risk. One won’t find any A rated companies among BCD clients. This in of itself puts BDC investing further out on the risk curve than a regular bank or an investment grade corporation.
