Re: C02???

You really can not make this stuff up! ;-)

Now here again, the problem is THE GOVERNMENT!

- In order to be a problem, the stuff has to leak into the atmosphere.

- I recall the first fridge we bought. It was 50 years old when we bought it, and was 70 years old when we gave it away (using it as the basement fridge at the time) and still working. The people that took it wanted it for their cottage where for all I know it at 100 plus years old could still be working.

- They were built to not leak and run for ever and it was probably charged with ammonia.  Now I do not suggest charging fridges with ammonia as it is a very dangerous gas.

- The problem is not with the agents that are used to charge the fridge, its with the leaking and the short life cycles of the appliances - most of which fail because the cooling systems leak.

- easy fix - just legislate that the compressors and cooling systems must be guaranteed for 25 - 30 years and the problem goes away. Some will say that that will cost more money but the reality is that its not nearly as much as one would think and it costs a lot more money having to replace junk every 7 to 10 years.

-  the longer lasting cooling will not be as energy efficient but again - who cares - 10% more to operate the fridge verses replacing junk every 7 - 10 years.

- As for propane, a lot of the retail recharge kits that they sell for recharging home/ auto air  conditioning units contained low moisture (dried) propane. I bought one 3 or 4 years ago to recharge my Unit and thats what it was - came complete with warning stickers stating that the system would have some propane mixed in the gas.

YUP - The problem is the government - They want to save the planet but only if saving the planet involves screwing you and your pocket book! ;-)
