The cuts are tiny but are in sharp contrast to their previous hiring binges. Hiring binges always get a lot of low-talent people, who can hopefully be flushed if things get pinchy.
Well, except for any diversity hires, who are protected regardless of performance. More dead weight there.
What they are terrified of is decreasing rates of profit growth or even losses, or even bigger losses. Then they become slow growers who deserve much lower valuations.
When they shed workers, are firing bonuses reflected as current cash out for the quarter? If so, firings only bring quicker losses for a while.
And of course I am biased, but fire the self-entitled snowflake wokesters in size. 20% would be a good start. They can be upscale homeless, with nice tents and stuff until the stuff is stolen.
